I am back from my month long holiday in Colombia…
Not only did my vacation end so quickly, but I just found out that I had gotten infected with Entamoeba Histolytica (Amoebiasis) along with E. Coli. My brother and mother also were infected with amoebiasis of some form (my brother unfortunately had the worst case). It looks like we all got it on our week-long trip to Cartagena, Colombia. We presume that we all got contaminated by the unsanitary conditions of the food, water, and drink at the hotel we were staying in (suffice to say that we are never going to that hotel again).
Luckily, my brother (who is used to getting protozoan infections of that nature in Colombia) got me to the airport pharmacy before leaving to buy some drug cocktails to kill them all off. So it is the next day, and I am feeling like my normal self.
I got to spend a lot of time in doctor’s offices, and besides the time on the beach with tropical parasites, I have to say it was worth it.
