Flip Flop Epidemic

One thing I have noticed for the last three summers is the widespread epidemic of flip flops for fashion in the U.S. I have an absolutely intense dislike of flip flops as everyday wear on the street and find nothing nice about them, considering they seem to carry very minimal hygiene for footwear in such a dirty city (well… people here tend to be dirty too, but that’s up for a completely separate discussion).

In addition, I cannot see how they would be good for your feet (doesn’t matter if people tell me they are comfy), as there isn’t much support.

The only time you will ever catch me wearing flip flops is for original intended use (i.e., gym shower, beach, pool, or relaxing at home—as slippers). I would never dare go out with them, even less to work as I’ve seen most people do (even in the middle of freezing winter!!!). They need to banned from the workplace as they make people look very slobby.

Imagine seeing some people walking to work in suits, sharp and then having looking down at the eyesore that is the incompatible foot attire…

Whatever happened to real shoes?

NB: I think it has officially become the U.S. footwear replacement for tennis shoes—now that it is summer I see and hear 98% of feet in DC gallivanting around in those damn things.
